Of coarse this nnnsnal sight took onr friend's attention, and while he looked on admiringly the wind caught his soft felt, aud away it went np the road in the same direction as the ladies. The dog, seeing the hat go rolling along, picked it up and followed 1U lnletresß, heoiile'.'ii of the soft nothings of tho owner o! the property, who cliaeed it unavailingly for some distance. Today he la to ba et'en wearing an old hat and looklr.g ont for the thief. The Eawke's B&y Honnds met at Thfl Biow ngaln on Saturday. It was a perfect day for scent, but not at all a pleasant ( day for tha pnbllo, beiug too cold and showery. It was a drag hnnt, leading from the woolehed np the Gw&vss-road, I noross the double jump there, tben the Hampdeu-roni double, and across the Tlkokiuo-road, where the check occurred, After the check tho houDdo tnrned towards home, through the manuka, licroaß the Walpaworond dnnble, and thence round tho woolshed jump, and there finished the fasteut run of tbe iieseun. Those who brnvod tho unuottled stabs of the weather, to soy nothing of the cold, louth-weßterly wind, had certainly reason to congratulate themselves, aa tho rnn wan undoubtedly one of tho most enjoyable behind the Hawke'a Bay pack. Only one acotdeob occurred, Mr T. Groome's horeo slipped, aod bath came to tibe ground as he was taking off, but no Ir j ary resulted. Every man waa in at the finleh, having negotiated every j amp. Among those following were Mr Jackeon, huntsman, oa Repo, Mr Ammandsen, whip, on a bay, Mrs Rhodes on Atkwrlght, Mits Rhodes on a datk bay, C. H. Airow on Carnival, Mr W. Arrow on DrugßH, Mr W. H. J. Bennett on Polloy, Mr E. Rithbone on Blaoketone, Mr J. Ireland on Electro, Mr T. Butler on Hippo, Messrs Groome ft) and leveral othrrs. Mr lteohsb Hardlug's many friends will be sony to learn that he is seriously ill; no mnch so that bin father and all tbe family havo been sent for.
