TO STAND THE SEASON AT ' HASTINGS, £Sv_ rgiHE THOROUGH V :; 2?^)l •*• BRED STALLION JBBI WAPITI, Wapiti ißono of the most evenly balanced and taking thoroughbreds to be found in the colony, wEIIh his pedigree la an exceptionally good one, fairly bristling with the names of the most successful slros and racehorses for the last half-oentury. By Nelson's sire, King Cole, from Maxim's dam Realisation, he combines two successful lines of blood, and he has produced several fairt and good performers. Mated with few stud-book mares, he has produced two clinking good ones in the full brother and Bißter, Pom Pom and Caribou, both from tho St. Loger mare Legera. His stock from halt-ored and hacknoy mnres show plenty of size, subetanoe, and quality oomblned. Pom Pom bb a two-year-old was the best colt of hla year, for besides winning a number of important races, he ran second to Fhlleon In the Canterbury [ Welcome Stakes, running the i furlongs in 48aeo, with Derby weights up. Laat season Pom Pom won several good raoea, and waa placed in others. Caribou as a two-yaar-old annexed the two-year-old blue riband, the Canterbury Welcome Htakes, but a severe attaok of influenza prevented her further distinguishing herself. First Result and Aquafortis (who won at Marton the other day) are two good ones by Wapiti from second-class mares, Wapiti himself was a really brilliant performer when well, winning over all dls tances, and defeating at different times the pick of the handicap horses of the colony, including Buch celebrities as Nelson, Rubina, Spade Guinea, Captain Webster. Mitrailleuse, and a host ot others. The deoda of his half brother, Maxim, and ot ajaxam'a progeny both in this colony and Amenjca, are too well known to need repetition, hut they prove that Realisation's sons have, in a marked degree, the power to transmit their excellence to their stock. The following is Wapiti's tabulated pedigree:— I 6 Economist £ Daughter of Sv.
