ELECTRICAL TRAMWAYS.
Wklunoton, Friday, Mr John Gell, of the Telegraph Department, who ia an associate of the Institute of Electrical Engineers, has forwarded to the Mayor an Interesting communication In connection with electric tramways. Sir Gell a con'ple of years ago : visited Europe and America, and says that he gave a good deal of attention to the subject of eleotiic traotion. He declares than the present lystem oi trsmways In Wellington is obiolete atd tbo corporation should not purchase it m nuy prlee. The trolly system of eloctrio&i traction he oonslders most suitable for Wellington, and to replace the present! tramway he estimates tbe coßt lo ba £45,000, and for an extension to tho suburbs the total coat would be about £100,000. He estimates that a oou penny and a half-penny passenger raw would give an annual profid of £3500, He suggests chat arracgements should bo made with suburbs such as Eurorl and Brooklyn to run a tram to them on the coaoesslon of a portion of their increased rates.
