HAWKE'S BAY BOARD OF EDUCATION.

Tuesday, July 21. Present— Rev. Dr. Sidey, and Messrs F. W. Williams, F. Sutton, and J. G. Gilberd, CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and dealt with :— From Ashley-Clinton residents, asking that the head-master be removed. — A letter was read from the head-master (who has taught in the school for 20 years) explaining that the bad report of the Inspector was due to irregularity of examinations, and the fact that the school work had been delayed through the school being burned down, &c— lt appeared that several names of the petitioners were those of persons having no children at the school,— Referred to the Committee of School Reports to make inquiries. From the Cllve committee, asking to be allowed to postpone the holidays till after the examination; aleo that conveniences for females might be erected.— The postponement w»b granted sad the conveniences to be anpplled. From the Danevlrke committee, recommending that Miss Mary Guy ba Bppointed pnpll teacher.— Approved. From the sama, asking if tho school could be need for night classes. — Granted. From tho Glsborne committee, recommending that one of the rooms be used for technical instruction.— Granted. From ths same, recommending that Miss Ban's scholarship be transferred t'j the Chiistchuroh High School.— Granted, From the same, recommending that Mr Brown's term of service as pupil teacher !be extended far a year.— Granted. From the name, applying for £2 sj, cost) of Kensingbon demonstration sheets.— Refused, From the same, asking why the alteration in the holidays was not granted.— Decided to reply that the matter was duly considered, and a resolution was passed to govern all cases. From Rev. J. Abeam, asking that Mr Hill be allowed to inspect the Roman Catholic school.— Granted subject to Mr HilVa convenience. From the Makauri oommlktoo, offering 6o subscribe £2 10j towardß a swing; asking that Constable Smith be appointed truant offioer,— Swing refused. giFrom the Matawhero committee, re application for £4 17s 6d.— Mr Qutgley reported that the work done waa worth only &1 10i.— Decided to reply that the Board refuses to entertain the claim, which was not properly applied for. From the Napier oommltbee, asking the Board to make provision for egress from upper class rooms In eaee of fire ; recommending that Miss Alice Cross be ap pointed pnpll fceacher,— lt was decided that the archlteet report on the first matter.— Miss Cross's appointment was agreed to. From the Norsewoad committee, enclosing Miss Webb'a request for extension of nick, leave.— Granted, without pay. From Mr Rsnderson, Norsewood, in reference to a member of the school committee supplying goods to the school.— Referred to the school committee. From settlers of Norsewood South, applying that a school he provided. — Not entertained. From the Ormondvillo committee, ask ing that a Dra-placa be erected in the poroti.— Refused. From the Pakahu committee, asking that) Mr Hill be allowed to report on teaebsr's accommodation and water , supply.— Refused, From tha Portland Island sohool, refusing to take their winter holidays ; forwarding £5 15s as grant towards teacher's salary.— Received, From tho Patutahl committee, asking that Miss Moore be granted half -pay on sick leave.— Agreed to. From the Port Ahurlri eoniinlttße, recommending that Miss Mahon be ap- ' pointed pupil teacher.— Granted. From the same, esking that the architect) report on the school in regard to Sighting.— Referred to the chairman and Mr Williams to report. From the Porangsban committee, recommending that Mies .Rudtnan be appointed to assist Miss Cross.— Decided that she be appointed a pupil teacher on the usual terms. Prom settlers at Tahoraitß, asking for a school.— Decided to reply that tho Board wonld support an aided school, From the Porangahau committee, asking that the teacher's residence ba enlarged.—The secretary to make Inquiries. From the Ta Karaka committee, applying for £6 for conveniences.— No funds available. From the Taradale committee,, asking that Miss Morrison be appointed a pupil teacher. — Agreed to ; the appointment to date from the 13th instant. From the Te Aral committee, asking - thai Miss Faram open. the school. — To be left till the master arrives. From the same, re repairs required to the school— Decided to grant £2. from the Te Ante committee, applying for £5 to remove conveniences. — Mr Miller to report, and the chairman authorised to act in the matter. From tha Walroa committee, reporting that the floor of the teacher's residence is rotten; recommending that Miss Neale and Mlsa King be appointed teachers.— Decided that the chairman's action in granting £10 - for the floor be endorsed ; tbe appointments were apreed to. From the Weber committee, applying for £5 for drainage and grating ; recommending that; Mr Cameron be appointed to the school committee j asking that a plan of the school reserve be provided. — Drainage refused ; Mr Cameron's aopointcnent agreed to ; the secretary to famish Abe tracing. From the Walpawa committee, asking for £30 for repairs. Mr Miller reported that £17 103 weald be sufficient.— The latter amount waa authorised. From the Woodville jcornmittse, asking that leave or absence be granted to Mlaa Seymour ; and thib two pnpll teachers be appointed,— Agreed to. From tha Mission Station, Meanee, asking that Mr Hill might examine the school.— Granted, if convenient to Mr Hill. From the TJmntaoroa committee, asking to have eight acres of school reserve fenced.— Decided to provide the wire and a gate, the committee to provide posts and labor. From the Treasury, forwaidiog £2022 JGs 3d capitation, — Received, Prom the School Commissioners, forwarding read for reserves, £500,—Kecelved. MISCELLANEOUS. Several reports wera received and adopted. Accounts amounting to £2095 17s 5d were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
