The Theatre Royal was filled to overflowing Jasb night when " Tho Double Event" was reproduced by Mr Georcre Darrell and his talented company. The piece wob as amply realistic p.nd effective ai before, and tho applause was generous throughout!. The Cnp race was, as before, highly excltintr, and the incidents centring round it artistic and highly entertaining. The noting of bho principals was as vigorous and claver ai before, aud tho staging lelleck'd great credit on thogu concerned. At the i'uuclublou uf the cup race Mr Darrell took tbc opportunity of thanking the public for bheir patronage, and the Press for their kindly notices, and annoanced that he would probably return to Napier In August. "EAST LYNNE." To-night the original dramatised version of Mrs Wood's marvellously pathetic story " East Lynne " will be staged (this being the last night of the season). Mr Darrell has been playiug in this piece for two decadeß now, having been associated li it at various times with such prominent actresses na Miss Fanny Cathcart, Miss Cleveland, Miss Adelaide Bowrlng, Mips Florence Colvllle, and Mies Louiao Pomeroy in Australasia, and In England and America with Mies Fanny Devonporr, Mlaa Ada Gray, and Mies Maud Henderson. It Is recorded as a remarkable facb that the publishers' record for 1894 proves that the sale of ••East Lynne" far outnumbers that of any other work of fiction. Mr Darrell will play the part of Sir Francis Lsvison, which he has sustained already over 600 times in various parts of the world. Miss Harrle Ireland (who has already found great favor with Napier audiences) will appear as Lady Isabel.
