The Premier haß instructed the AgentGeneral to Impress on the Impnrlal Government the importance of the Pacific cable and the necessity of as early representative conference to discuss theanbject 1 . He also urges Mr Gillies to endeavor to secure the cooperation of the AgentsGeneral of the other colonies. Yesterday was the last day for the payment of the income tax. The amount received to date is £110,000, bnt considerable payments by post are still due. About 3000 appeals have been lodged. The Supreme Coart has sanctioned the compromise arranged by the creditors in the bankrupt eßtate of Alfred Shaw. The shareholders of the Central mine adjourned without taking any definite action.
