We entirely agree with onr contemporary the Chrlstcharoh Press in condemning the recent Ministerial appointments to the governing body of the Middle Island University. The principle of submitting candidates for appointment) to educational offloa to a political party te3t, is far more vicious than waa the principle which requited each oaudidate to subscribe the thirty-nine articles. Something might be urged in favor of the latter test, nothing oan be nrged ia favor of the former, <md to import) party politics into our educational system is the first step towards destroying its efficacy. If Governors are to be chosen from the ranks of party, the next step will be to seleot teaohers from the ranks of party supporters— and we ask our readers who have the interests of true edneatiou at heart, who desire that onr young people shall receive all the benefits of antaintad academio training, and of tho disolplloe of sound learning, whether they believe those interests would be promoted by teaohers becoming political sycophants? Certainly, in the appointments under immediate notice, we have warranty for the political orthodoxy of the men, but just as certainly we have no evidence of their literary or scientific fitness for office. la this as it should be *
