[FBOH OUK OWN CORRESPONDKHT, Jnne 6, 1895, The Waipawa Masons have decided to give a social ia about a month's time in tbelr lodge room, the admission to which will be confined to Masons, their wives, daughters, and sweethearts, There can be no donbt as to the popularity of this movement among the ladles, in the hope of obtaining some insight into the Masonic secrets. Tbe Waipawa County Council met tlm morning. Present— Messrs Knight (chairman), Crosse, C. h. Mackersey, Sldey, Cook, Stone, Scrimgeour, Nordbye, and Jull. — A special meeting was first held for the purpose of receiving the annual balance shee and accounts, whioh were passed. — A claim for £6 audit ieoß was passed, also £1 6s Sd for auditing Ormondville Road Board accounts. The audited balance-sheet ot Danovirke Road Board when merged wns l^ii on the table. — The clerk state! that the Commissioner of Crown Lamia had not replied to his letters. — Cr. Crosse remarked that he thonght they had been too hurried in taking over the Danevirke merged district, which was nearly £500 to tbe bad, and he thought they should be better informed in future, — On the motion of Cr. Croase, io was decided to bring a teat case to enforcj tbe payment of rates by tenants of Crown lands. A list of all Crown tenants and of native lands in the connty was ordered to be procured. — The Chairman of the Waipukurau Road Board usked that the main road be attended to. Cr, Mackersey said the road was In excellent cuedition, but there were some pot boles tlmt wanted filling, and he moved that £10 be votrd for the purpose, Carried. — Tbo Woodvllle Road Board wanted the road near the cemetery gates attended to. — Notice of a conference of loc^l bodies at Palmerston was read, and the Council was requested to send a representative to form a deputation to Ministers to endeavor to get the Government to take over the Gorge road, at fl date to bo fixad. Crosse. — A claim for 70 loads of metal by Mr Wiley against the Danevirke Road District was refused by the Board, bat tho Council declined to recognise it. — An objection by Mr Bellsbaw that he was not the owner of a 3ectlon charged to him was referred to the Woodvllle Road Board. — Mr J. N. Williams wrote regarding a fence on tbe Te Ante road near Mundell's ; overseer to report.— Some Umutaqroa settlerß applied tor a quarter of a mite of metaling. Dealt with in overseer's report.— An application was received for a bridle track in Block VIII . Norßewood S.D,, near Umutoaroa, which bad had nothing done at It for " 200 years." The reading created much amusement. No ratefl had been paid on this property, though occupied tor three yeus. Received. — Several applications from tha Makaretn merged district were received, and Crs. Cook and Stone moved a vote in favor, but it was opposed and lost on tbe ground that tho district was so much overdrawn, having drifted £590 to tho bad last year. — Mr Joyce, a Crown tenant, admitted he owed three years' rates, bnt refused to pay- To be Included in list to be sued. — A. Wheeler forwarded a claim of £5 for work done in January, 1893, which he had forgotten. To be inquired into, and if right to be paid. — A petition from 97 Maharubara settlors was presented by Cr. Cioeso, asking tbe Council to form aud mebil the coutinua tlon of Pinfold-road extension. He stated that the road was not required, as except in one caee they all had frontages to a road, and the extennlon waß not a county road. Nordbye seconded, but) ouly Cr. Sidey voted In favor. Cr. Siday then moved that it be 1 1 in tho £1, but that was lost by six to two, and the motion waa carried. Cr. Jail was of opinion that it was unnecessary to move that tho special rate be collected, as it was a condition of the loans.— Cr. Jull moved the abolition of the Norsewood toll bar, as impolitic and yielding so smnll a revenue. Cr. Croase seconded, regarding toll bars as a relic of barbarous times. Cr. Sidsy opposed tbe motion, aa ho contended that the toll bar regulated tho passage of stock, and enabled persons to ccc what sheep had gone through. Carried, Crs. Sidey and Nordbye alone dissenting. —In reply to Cr. Mackeraay, the Chairman said all contractors were rangers in espect of horces arid cattle tunning on the Connty roads.— Tho Chairman moved that the Council borrow from the jiovernment £1750 for formation and metalling roads iv the Umntaoron block, viz , Mangatera-road £840, Terrace-road £150, Kity's road £135, Station-road £150, Tarndale-road £45, Adelaide-road £220 ; bridges, over Tapatua creek, £40, on Taradule-road £85, Station- road £85, The motion was seconded by Cr, Jail and carried, Cr, Sldey alone siying "No." He proceeded to say after what had pasted he would vote against any loan proposals. BeiDg called to order on tho ground that tbe motion was disposed of, he etrid it was no a, and he wonld argue against it. Told by the chairman again that he had already voted, he persisted in arguing it, end declared he would do so. Cr. Jull thonght it time the chair asserted itself. Cr. Sidey persisted, and C*h Jail, Crosse, Macker^ey, and Stone roae and were ranking for the door, when Cr. Sldey subsided. — The consideration of the overBeer's report is proceeding
