Melbourne, Wednesday. The banking returns for tUe March
Quarter far the Australasian colonies show that tbe fixed deposits in the six . colonies decreased by £1,551,000, but the onrrent accounts increased by £2,665,000. Since 1893 there his been a decrease in advances of £17,666,000, and a decrease In deposits of £12,500,000, while the coin and bullion have Increased £3,470,000. Replying to a deputation from the Chamber of Commerce, the Premter said be would give the Pacific cable scheme every assistance, and insbruot the AgentGeneral to co-operate with Great Britain, Canada, and tbe other colonies in pressing the matter aa one of nrgenoy. He would also communioate with the other colonies urging them to take aotion.
