Adelaide, Tnesday, The South Australian Register says that if the Premier is not convinced of the futility of the proposed treaty with New Zealand by observation here, that conviction should be inevitable after reading the innumerable protests evoked in New Zealand papers. The papir adds that there seems not a tjhosb of a cbance of the treaty being accepted by the new Parliament. Mrs Cameron, who has fast retorted from New Australia, states that when she left the Battlers were doiog fairly well. Flour and vegetables were scarce,^ and the cattlo had to be sold to purchase these. She bringß a letter addressed 10 the Premier of Queensland, asking assistance for some others to eaable them to return. The letter states that many wish to leave the settlement, bnt are unable to owing to the want of money. and they will die of starvation if nob assisted, ac the ctops are nob coming on as they should, A successful trial of a patented process for making cyanide was demonstrated yesterday betore a large number ot persons interested in mining, Itabblts are devastating the country in the Cooper's Creek district. They havo completely eaten np the feed, aDd numbers of cattle are dying from starvation. The pest ia reported to be spreading at a great rate to the surrounding district?. In consequence of the success of the trial shipment of live sheep to England, Messrs Harrold Brothers are arranging to send Home a second consignment of several hundred crossbreds. The Governor has approved of the regulations for the working of the Factories Act.
