Tbe steamer Upoln encountered terrific weather in her attempt to reach Newcastle, A tremendouß sea disarranged her water ballast system, «nd the vessel was compelled to return to Sydney. Mr Eddy's acceptance of the position of Chief Commissioner of Kailwaya has given General satisfaction throughout the country. The Hon. Mr Garrard, who baa just returned from a flying visit to Nbw Zealand, stated in tbe coarse of an interview that be was somewhat disappointed with his Visit. The industrial system appeared td him to work fairly well, and he thought it would continue to do so if the politicians wonld only leave it alone. He wps soiry to say a member of the New Zealand Parliament seemed to ba more of a labor agenb thsn some members of the Australian Parliaments, Tt would be better, also, if Ministerial kflaence was not so marked. To him it appeared that tbe effeots of the legislation fulfilled its intentions and equalised the oomforts of life more.
As the last crioket match between tbe Englishmen and Queensland was a fiasco, the New Sonth Wales Cricket Atsociation has agreed to comply with a request from lbe Queensland Association that tbe next match shonld be against a combined team of New Sonth Walea and Qaeemland cricketers. This has been done in otder to iafase mote interest In tbe game.
