NEW SOUTH WALES.
Sydney, Wednesday. Obituary-Captain M'Leod, the New Hebrides trader, well known in Now Zealand. The official journal published in connPCtion with New Australia contains cablegrams to the effect that the new constitution was declared on May Ist, and that Mr Frederick Kidd was elected director of affairs. It la surmised that Mr Lane, the original administrator, did not contest) the position, as he desired to make an extensive tour in England and Canada on behalf of the settlement. If has transpired that during certain railitaty manoeuvres at Newcastle on Saturday last one of the hydro pneumatic Runs was mined, involving a loss of between £4000 and £5000. From what can be gathered id appears almost a miracle that a similar calamity to that on the Cordelia did not occur. It is believed that a shot carried away the whole rißia^ of the gun, and the missile very nearly jammed in the barrel.
