(Received Alar 15, 7.15 p.m.) Sydney, Tuesday. The Boot Manufacturers' Association this morning agreed to re-open tbe factories to-morrow morning on the distinct understanding that tbey are to be permitted to employ nnien or non-union labor. Printed placards are to be posted in each factory declaring that it is reopened nnder the principle ot freedom of contract, (Received May 16, 1.20 .a.m.) In the case of the two aboriginals sentenced tb death for the Dora Dora mnrders both sentences have been commuted — one to imprisonment for life and the other to imprisonment for fifteen years. The small-pox patient by the steamer Taiynan died at the quarantine station to-day. The first monthly return under the new Bank Note Act shows that the twelve note-issuing banks in the colony hold £7,2/2,000 in coin, compared with £1,264,000 note issue. In connection with the proposal of the unionists to establish a co-operative boot factory, a leading manufacturer has oilered his plant on terms ef payment extonding over three years, and agrees to take any quantity ot approved goods.
