Tbe Chamber of Commerce, in discus^ ing tbe question to be decided at tbe Canadian Conference, admitted the neceseity tor the Pacific cable, but opposed tha proposed route via New Zealand, as tbe distance wonld be one thousand milea greater than from Queensland direct. The Chamber was iiou prepared to say from present information tbat the Canadian route was the best.
