gkttte T^yAIEAKEI HOTEL THE FINEST HEj\LTH RESORT IN THE COLONY. Proprietress I MRS GRAHAM. WAIRAKEI. J TESTLMONIALS BY DX. ALLEN, iwo years ago we paid our first visit to this j district, and soon found that Wairakei was the centre of attraction, lying as it does close to the greatest natural wonders and possessing a beautiful climate. It is sheltered from tbo cold winds of tho south by a range of hills. Tho soil is a combination of gravel and pumico, nud is so loose and porous that no moisture can lodge on tbo surface. The Hotel faces tho north, so that it obtains tho b- nefltof the sunshiuo all day long, and as it is situated well out on tho plain tho breczo circulates freely round it and keeps the nir fresh and cool. Tho Geysers nud other natural wonders are of courso tho great attractions, but they havo been described elsewhere. It is as a health resort for the invalid or tired business man that I consider Wairakei so eminently suitablo. The locality possesses a combination^ advantages rarely found associated— porous soil, high nlUtuuo (1250 feet abovo sea level), shelter from cold winds, and a climate naturally dry-render tho air singularly sweet, pure, and invlgor ating. ■ All theso advantages, however, would fail in restoring a debilitated system, were it not possiblo to secure a surply of good nourishing food to satisfy the keen appetite engendered by the fine air nnd climate. At Wairakei a bountiful aupply of frceh country fnro, milk, fresh meat, eggs, and vegetables can bo obtained, ns a lengthened personal experience testifies, so that I can confidently recommend those who feci the need of rest nnd renewal of heall h to spend some weeks at Wairakei. The bath at Wairakei is of about tho temperaturo of 100 degrees Far. It contains alum in solution, in combination probably with silica ; the result being that it exerts the astringent and healing eifect ot tho ordinary alum Baits, without the drying and roughening effect which renders alum so disagreeable in most instances. The silicate seems to render the skin smooth and soft, and the action of the water Is most soothing to an irritable surface. I consider it a valuable bath in most skin affections, and also in rheumatic and gouty cases. On the present occasion a stay of some weokshas had a most beneficial effect on my family and myself. (Signed) F. H. L. ALLEN, M.D. For the third timo we have come to stay at Wairakei, to seek renewed health after professional work and worry. I have tried many other places with tho same object, but find that my wife and myself always gravitate at length to this bright healthful spot. Mrs Graham has made many improvements in the arrangements of the Hotel. The chief attraction in our eyes, however. Is tho certainty of obtaining the best of fresh country food, and also the kind weloome and attention we always receive. (Signed) F. H. L. LLEN, M.D. Wairakei, April 18tb. 1891.
