Our Hastings correspondent in another column refers to registered letters thab were sent to electors wroogly struck off the roll. This registered business works out peculiarly, Here is a strange Napier instance. An elector named J. Hogue, who eavean nddrts< in Napier complained that his name was not on the roll for thab district), although he had sent in a claim. Subsequently a lebter was sent to him explaining thab the informality of his claim consisted la bis having failed to state a definite address. In thab lebter was enclosed a form to be correctly filled up. A few days before the election Hug ue was moklng inquiries as to his claim, and was told. that a lebter had been sent him wicks before. He expressed surprise, said he had not got the letter, bub thab he would go and demand ib. Tbab Utter was rebnrned oi the 27th November through the Deid Letter Office as " unclaimed." Here is a curious instance that will interest Sergeant Mitchell. On the 4,h of October ihe Rev, W. Colenso wbb on the Hawke's Bty roll for a property qualification. He was also on the >pp!er ro'l. In accordance with the law Mr Colenso wrote to Sergeant Mitchell, desiring hit name to be retained on tbe Hawke's Bay roll. His name was struck off, and he got no notice whatever of the foot, and was so pnt to the u»eleas expense of going out to HastlDgs to find that he could not vote because hia name was nob on tbe roll. Inquiries ab the Napier police station show thab Sergeant Mitchell gob the letter, because he endorsed io and forwarded it to Sergeant. Gallon as anbhoritv for him to strike Mr Colensn's name off the Napier roll, Mr Colenso is now baking steps to probe this extraordinary matter to the bottom. Dr. Wallace MacKeLzle, of Welling, ton, will remain in Napier until Siturdoy, and may be consulted at Mr Owen's I Pharmacy. Appointments can be ar- I ranged with Mr Owen.— [Advt ] 881 j
