THE HAWKE'S BAY ROLL.

Bin,— l would feel obliged if you could enlighten me from yonr general fund ot tuflful information regarding the following episode, or, more properly speakiug, tiece of cbieanery coDDeoted with the Compiling of the roll for the Haw Ice's Bay electorate. About a month or so back 1 roieived a copy of the electoral roll trpru Mr Ireland at Hastings, and on goiog over it I found two of the 0 vhaoko fshepherds had their names struck off. One of those ru«a had been on tho roil (or the last seven years, and voted at the last two elections^ . Oir going to the poll yesterday at Kuripapaoga, to my great Burprkt) and disgust I found three more men whose uamei were expunged from the roll in the last few weeks. Two of those men have been residents on the Owhaoko station for the Übt four years, and voted at the last election, namely, Mr Hugh M'Doaald, number on roll 1660 jMr H. Beis, 2280 ; and Mr M. Ryan, 2354, who have been in Mr A. M'Donald'B employ at Kuripapanpa for seven yeara. JNow. sir, those men were on the electoral roll some few weeks previous to the electioa, and never received any notice or intimatiou that) their names were eliminated, neit'aer have they changed their place of residence or employment. The only solution of tho pro blein I can arrive at is that Otvhaoko hiia always been a Btrong supporter ot Captain Russell. From the ordinary course of events one might rest satisfied after afcertiiniug that bin name was on the roll a fa* weeks previous to the election, bnt apparently such is not tho case.— l am, R. T. Warren. [The whole Hastings roll was a disgraceful publication, aud there should be an inquiry as to who is responsible both for names left on which should have heon struck off, and those struck off who should have remained on.— Ed. H.B H.]
