The South Canterbury Refrigerating Company's annual report states that there were put throngh the works during the year 08,426 sheep, 48,375 lambs, and 16,000 bares. Offers have been recoived from Messrß Nelson Bros, to lease the works for three or Aye years at £3000 a year net. From the Islington Company the samo terms are offerred, with an indefinite offer to purchase during tbe term. The meeting of the company has been adjnurnpd for a fortnight, and both companies are to be asked for a straight out offer to buy, or for a compulsory purchasing clause.

Mr H. S. Fish addressed his first meeting of electors at South _ Dunedln last evening, There was at times considerable uproar, and Mr Fish was subjected to a good deal of interruption, but be was able to finish his speech, He claimed that be had been consistent throughout the last Parliament, and that it was the Government who had departed from tbe principles upon wbich they took office. A motion of thanks and confidence was declared carried by the chairman, though more bands were hold up against than for the motion,

INVERCARGILL, Sunday. John Hinchey, a farmer at Fernhill. Benmore, was killed at the Invercargili station yesterday, bping run over by the train by which be intended to travel home. There is quite a confilot of evidence as to how the affair occurred. Some say that Hinchey was on board tbe train and fell off aB it started, but a man who was on the platform adjoiulng that from wbich Hinchey fell says that Hinchey arrived late with two awkward parcels, then ran a few yards alongside the train, making as if to throw the parcels aboard the train, and then changed his intention, tuoked the parcels under bis right arm, and grasped the standard of a carriage with his left hand, but he was twlched off his feet and fell on the rail between the carriages.
