Melbourne, Wednesdays The Colonial Treasurer has arranged to convert £120,000 of the £2,800,000 4 per cent local loan, which matures at the end of a year, Into 4 per cent Bbock at par, and expects to convert the remainder at a reduced rate of Interest. It transacts business in New South Wales, Queensland, and Victoria, Last) quarter's retnrn showed its Meets in New South Wales as £2,583,000, and liabilities £896,000. In Victoria the deposits amonnt to £2,381,000, and the advances to £3,535,000. On December 1881 the Australian deposits totalled £3,186,000, and the British £3,583,000. The bank reopens this morning to receive new amonnts and cash notes, The associated banks were willing to assist, but owing to the excited condition of the public the management considered that monetary aid would bs ineffectual.
