NAPIER PARK B.C. AUTUMN MEETING.

President): John Close. Vice-president : John Heslop. Treaanrer : E. W, Knowles. Stewards : Meaera U. H. Swan, M.H.R., T. Sidey, D. Glendin. niug, J. M'Vay, YY. Heslop, T. A. Shirley, •). Bennett, K. Sweetapple, J, ii. Swan. Judge : J. BeDHett. Starter : S. Powell. Clerk of the Scales : B. W. Knowles. Clerk of the Course : J. iiopdell. Timekeeper: S. JE. Cooper. Handicapper :, A, T. Danvers, Secre* tary : A. T. Danvers. The first day's racing of the Napier Park Racing Club's autumn meeting was held, .yesterday under moat favorable auspices. The weather was beautifully fine, and the day being a public halfholiday there was a very large attendance. The grand stand was crowded, the fair sex being very numerous. ' The course was in capital order, and the lawn was Rooking splendid. The radon; was Mcellent, large fields being the order of the day, and the contests in almost every raoe were vary close. Mr S. Powell, as ueaal, wat very successful with the flag, getting his fields away in even line each time In the first race, the Trial Handicap Hurdle Race, Worth, who was palpably tiring at the finish, only got home by a head from Sir Tatton, while in the Sapling stakes, SSanella, Norsemaid, and Noyade iought out a punishing finish, not a length separating the first and third as they passed the post, The raoe for the Cup too was a grand one, for although Merganser's great pace enabled her to win' by a length, It wai not so easy a, viator; as it itemed,

find TJa, Bonlsnger, and Scot Free made a gallant) fight for places. The win of the top W9lght was a great performance, and the public cheered her when " all right " was declared. In I his f race Muriwai Bllpped aud fell, mid in uscovering herself collided with the manei's horse, with the result that Muriwiii di*l,.cated nne of her shoalders, and it U feared that she will never race again. Tlriteu pnlled off the Handicap Hurdle Race rather easily. Prairie Graßß annexed the Eeddyffe Stakes after a good fighb with . Spinieldt, who went Out favorite. Krina broke tte succession of seconds which she han put up lately, and got her head home first in the Flying Handicap, though Banglatcu was very uloao up. In tinWelter Handicap a capital finish was witnessed, Kapua landing the stake by a clear length, with Mnsket and Maid of Lome, rnnnlng a dead beat for second honors. The handicapping was first-class, and as usual the dividends were fairly large, the principal one being £8 IBs to Kapna's backers in the Welter Handicap, while Tiritea rewarded his supporters in the Handicap Hurdle Race with a dividend of £7 2s, though had the race not been started so soon the amount invested on the machines would have been much larger, and the dividend perhaps smaller, as those speculators who failed to get their money on were with- few exceptions strong supporters of Tiritea. The amount put through the three machines by Messrs Prebble and Proffitc was £5831. Although the public declared strongly for Merganser in the Napier Cup, most of the other candidates were well backed, bnt perhaps the favorite would not have paid such a substantial dividend had not some of the stable money gone on with the metallicians. The club were evidently determined nob to allow bookmakers to lay machine oddß, and some of the fraternity were ordered out of the paddock for bo doing. The races were started punctually to time, and visitors were thus able to reach home early after seeing the last) race. Mi Glassford snpplied a splendid luncheon in the luncheon booth, and his patrons were legion in numbers, reminding one of tte rodents who made inroads into Bishop Haddo's granary. Howevever, if Bishop Haddo had provided as good a repast for bis visitors as did Mr Glotaford for his, the bishop would probably not have come to such an untimely end as he is said to have done. On the retnru home vehicles of every description were in great demand, and the arithmetical puzzle of " two into one you can't " was tried over and over again with the nsual amount of nonsuccess. The following are the results of the racing :— TRIAL HANDICAP HURDLE RACE. Of 50 soys ; second horse to receive 10 soys from the stake ; 1$ mile. Hod, J. D.
