Sydney, Tuesday. Malvolio, Correze, and Fog have been withdrawn from the Sydney Gold Cap. The whole of the settlement at Part Sandwich, New Caledonia, has been swept away, and the French company has sustained a heavy loss. Their finest plantation has been destroyed, and the natives are absolutely without food. The loss at Yilahanah is estimated at 125,000 francs. Noumea escaped, thovgn the other parts were deluged. Appalling floods have taken place and the loss is 3,«0O,OOO franca. No less than 20,000 tons of nickel ore were washed into the sea. Many thrilling escapes are recorded. The Governor has cabled to France for £20,000 to relieve the immediate wants of the residents.
(Haoelved Maroh 32, 12.iS».ra.) The Coal Regulation Bi!l baa passed the Legislative Council. It provides that a day's work for coalminers shall be eight boats with the exception of Saturday, on which the day's work shall be six hours.
