NAPIER BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Monday, April 125. The Council met at 12 noon. Present— His Worship the Mayor (Mr G. H. Swan, M.H.R) and Crs. Neal, Sidey, Cohen, Faulknor, Youoguusband, and Cranby. RATE, On tho motion of Cr. Cohen, seconded by Or. Neal, the ordinary rate of Is 3d in tho £1 and the special rate of Is iv the £1 for the year 1892-93 were formally struck. Crs. Neal and Cohen were appointed to sign the rate book, and Crs. Faulknor ana Neal to Bign the burgess roll. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and dealt with :— From, the WortbinetDn Pumping Engine- Co., stating that their representative would be in New Zealand at the end of April, and asking the Council to defer ordering the new pumping plant until then.— Received. From Mr E. H. Bold, Inspector of Telegraphs, complaining that come of the signboards ereoted by tradesmen in town interfered with tbo telegraph wires, and asking the Corporation to assist in remedying the interference, whioh, if allowed to exist, must Eerionily affect telegraphic sommunication.— Referred to Public Works Committee. From the Harbor Hoard, forwarding copy of the bi'l to authorise a further harbor loan, and asking for the support of the Council.— Referred to the Public Works Committee. From the Auditor-General, refusing to consent to the reduction of the special rate until the sinking fund was made up to the amount demanded by him.—Received. From Mr Wingfield, representative of Messrs M'Ewan and Co., London, asking for particulars of tbe new pumping plant required.— Particulars of Council's action iv the matter to be forwarded. From tho Farmers' Cooperative Association, complaining of tbe approach to the bridge at tho western quay at Ibe Spit, and asking for tho erection of a lamp at the corner.— Referred to the Publio Works Committee. From Mr J, T. Carr, 0.E., reporting that the late heavy north-east sea had completely denuded the beach around the curve of the sea wall between the "big rock " and the breakwater, undermining the wall at the town end of the curve, and causing about a chain and a half to collapse. In rebuilding it would be necessary to go down deeper with the foundation, taking the opportunity of calm weather and very low tide, and it would also be necessary to pat over an apron of large boulders to protect tho foundation.— Referred to tho Public Works Committee. BATTERY-ROAD. The overseer reported that the cost of the footpath asked for by Mr Lyndon would be from £22 to £25, calculated on the price of 9d per cubic yard for mate rial. He had been offered the material for that, which waa less than he could do it for. The estimate provided for forming the footpath from the Shakespeare Hotel to the Harbor Board's engine shed on the beach, ond for raisin? and forming Battery-road from Waghornestreeb to the junction of Sea Point-road.— The recommendation was adopted. VOUCHERS. Vouchers amounting to £232 6s ld were passed for payment. auctioneers' licensi-s, The Council agreed to issue auctioneers' licenses to the following :— Messrs E. Lyndon and Co., Messrs C. B. Hoadley and Co., and Messrs A, Reid, M. Lascelles, H. Baker, and P. A. Herman. Tho Council then adjourned.
