FIRE BRIGADE COMPETITIONS AT GISBORNE.
[BY TELEGRAPH.] (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Gisborne, Friday. ! The Fire Brigade gala to-day passed off | most successfully. The Spit, Napier, and Hastings teams arrived by the Wekaat ! 3 a.m., and at 8 o'clock the competition commenced, terminating at 6 p.m. The visitors are being entertained to-night at the Hussars' hall, where there is an enormous attendance. They Itave at 10 o'clock by the Rotomahana. The following are the results of the competitions :— Manual Engine (dry), one wao, prizes £5 and £2.— Morrison, Gisborne, 40 l-sth sec, 1 ; M. Karry, Spit, 49 4-sth sec, 2 ; Wlldish, Gisborne, 3. Hose and Hydrant, five men, prizes £25 and £s—Gisborne5 — Gisborne team, 50 2-sth sec, 1 ; Napier, 56sec, 2 ; Spit, 3. Ladder Kace (dry hose), one man, prizes £2 and £I.— Wildish, Gisborne, 11 2-sth sec, 1 ; Ruth, Hastings, 13£ sec, 2 ; Barry, Spit, 3. Manual Engine, two men, prizes £5 5s and £2 2s.— Fox and Wildish, Gisborne, 36 2-s th sec, 1 ; Johnston and Morrison, Gisborne, 40 3-sth sec, 2; Fosser and Gardener, Gisborne, 3. Hose and Ladder, five men, prizes £20 and £s—Gisborne,5 — Gisborne, 40 4-sth sec, 1 ; Spit, 42sec, 2 ; Napier, 43&ee, 3. Ladder Rescue, two men, prizes £5 and £2.— Morrison and Walters, Gisborne, 22 l-sth see, 1 ; Wildish and Fox, Gisborne, 23sec, 2 ; Gilberd and M'Cormick. 23 2-sth sec, 3. Alarm and Manual Engine Rush, five men, prizes, £15 and £s.— Spit, 66see, I j Gisborne, 71 4-sth see, 2; Hastings, 72 4-sthsec, 3. Alarm 'and Rusb, three men. — Gisborne won. The times of the several competitions were considered exceedingly fast. The visitors won £28.
