H.B. AMATEUR. ATHLETIC CLUB'S SPORTS.
Tips by " Miler." The first of this season's meetings ot the above ehtb will be held this afternoon at the Napier Park racecourse. 'Buses will run from town during the afternoon, the first leaving about 1,30, and the Railway Band will be in attendance on the ground to discourse sweet music. The competitors have not, as a whole, I regret to say, done anything like the amount of training that should be done. The first event on the programme, which starts at 2. 15, is the 120 yds Hurdles, for which race I shall tip F. C. White 1 Richardson 2 J. l. Cato 3 The 100 Yards Handicap comes nextMy selections for this race are JR. J. Hunter 1 F. C. White 2 A. H. Carnell 3 The Mile Walk is the next on the programme, I expect to see only three starters for this, and will place them H. Crowley 1 H. Newton 2 E. Crowley 3 The Ladies' Bracelet will next come on for decision, for which event I expect to see K. J. Hunter, Cato, S. K. Kennedy, J. Parker, P. C. White, Bennett, Miller, W. J. Peacock, A. Chapman, and G. Dryden go to the post. The finish, I think, will be fought out by the scratch men, and they should run home in this order Kennedy 1 ■Hunter 2 Cato ', 3 Wrestling is the next event, and entries for this item must be in the hands of the secretary before 2.45 p.m. After this comes the 150 Yards Handicap, and to fill the places I shall select . X, J. Hunter ... 1 Parker 2 8. E. Kennedy 3 With Carnell close up. lam sorry to see -that Cato has not entered for this event The High Jump will then be decided, and though he has to allow a handicap to the other competitors, 1 shall expect to' see the prize awarded to F. O. White, with Vato and Richardson next in order. ,;■■ The Mile Championship of New Zsai][i?i,p9 r ßY|nt of the day) is the next
item on the programme. For this event in exceedingly handsome epergne has been provided, and this should ttimulate the different competitors to outshine themselves. The field will probably comprise F. Ellis, J. I. Cato, and C. J. Liunb. This alionld lie a very food race, and I expect the finish to bo J. Parker 1 Ellis 2 Cato or Hutchins 3 The 220 Yards Handicap comes next, and were Cato not to start for the Cham pionship I should plump for him, but in his absence my vote shall be Caknell 1 Kennedy 2 Hunter 3 The entries for the egg and basket race, which comes next, are to be in the hands of the secretary by i p.m. This event is to be followed by the BSO Yards Handicap, which has heretofore always brought out a fine field. I cannot tee anything in it I like so well as S. K. Kennedy l C. J. Lamb 2 J. I. Cato 3 A menagerie race, open to all comers, will finish the day's sport. Entiles must be made with the secretary by 4.25 p.m.
