THE CONCERT AT CLIVE.

Sik, — In your issue of this morniag your Clive correspondent writes that the concert given lost Wednesday night iv aid of the Catholic Church finished with a dance, which, it is said, was kept up till the small hours ot the moening. I beg distinctly to state that if daucmg took place after the concert it was without my sanction and in spite of my positive prohibition. Far from approving modern balls and dances, especially wlien they are kept up till the early hours of the day, I consider them as one of the greatest calamities of our age. I am no enemy to innocent recreation, but modern waltzes and polkas cannot, iv my opinion, be ranked amongst innocent pastimes. — lam, &c., Th. Le Menant Des Chesnais, S.M. Catholic Presbytery, Hastings, November 24, 188 S.
