A STICKLER FOR SYMMETRY.
A story is told of old Lord Selkirk in the days when symmetrical arrangement was considered the height of gardening. One day be found a boy shut up in the Bnmmer-house at the end of the terrace at St. Mary's Isle, and was informed by the gardener . that' It was for stealing apples. On reaching the end of the terrace./ where there .was another' sum-mer-house', Selkirk beheld the gardener's son looking dolefully ont of the window. " Eh ! John, what's this 1 Hal your boy been Btealing too?" " Na'.'ha, my lord," was the answer ; " I jdat pat him in for seametrs;."
