HASTINGS BOROUGH COUNCIL.

(FROM OUE OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The above Council met on Thursday evening. Present — His "Worship the Mayor, and Crs. Ellis. Foreman, Luckie, Tong, and Williams. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence Was read :— From the Municipal Conference, Wellington (held over from last meeting).-*-A resolution was moved, " That a reply be sent to the effect that this Council is in favor of a permanent municipal association being established, but will not agree to contribute more than £5 towards the cost of carrying on the same." The motion on being put was negatived. From Mr Walkden, the city surveyor, Christchurch, forwarding sketch plan of side chaunels with kerbing in wood and concrete, and also estimate of the cost of the same.— Kesolved that the Town Clerk be directed to write to Mr Walkden thanking him for the information. Fronrthe Auditor-Geueral, forwarding certified balance-sheet for the half year ended 30th September, 1887.— Received. From Mr Rochfort, referring the Council to Mr Hallett for any information required about the water supply for flushing closet pans.— Received. From F. Ballinger, Wellington ; W. T. Nuttall, Hastings ; Taylor and Oakley, Christchurch ; and Burl & Co., Dunedin, respecting prices for tar appliances. — Resolved "That a subcommittee, consisting !of the Mayor and Crs. . Ellis, Tong, Luckie, and Foreman, be appointed with authority to deal with the matter," From "the borough overseer submitting a plan of flush-out pan for water-closets, and recommending the same for general use throughout the borough.— Resolved, " That the overseer be instructed to have one of the pans shown in his sketch put up at one of the hotels in the town for the purpose of testing its efficiency, and if the trial proves satisfactory that it be allowed to remain and that the owuer or occupier of the premises be charged with the cost." From the overseer,! reporting upon the completion of Home's and Farmery's contracts for road formation, and recommending that two or three tanks, each 12 feet square and 10 feet deep, be put up f.ir the use of the lire brigade in case of lire ; estimated cost £5 each. -Resolved, "That the overseer be instructed to have three tanks put down at places to be indicated by the superintendent of the Hastings fire brigade at a cost not exceeding £15." From Mr W. Ilallett, stating that the plans for the Hastings' standard survey had been handed to the chief surveyor for examination, and suggesting that they be deposited at the Survey Office for safe keeping. — Resolved, " That Mr Hallett's suggestion re depositing the plans at the Survey Ollice be agreed to upon condition that the Snrvey Office furnish the Council with a tracing free of cost." From Mr E. H. Williams, asking the, consent of the Council to a right-of-way of less than 66ft wide laid off through suburban sectien No. 67, Hastings.—Resolved, "That Mr Williams be informed that the Council will consent to the right-of-way referred to upon plan of the property being produced." DRIVERS' LICENSES. Resolved, "That cab and drivers' licenses he paid at pro rata to Ist April, I 1880." Resolved, " That the borough overseer he appointed inspector of hackney carriages, and that the owner of any unlicensed cab or unlicensed driver be proceeded against." HORNE'S CONTRACT. Resolved, "That Home's contract only be charged to loan account." LpAN. Resolved, "That the loan be required for one year, with the option of renewing for another year at the expiration of first year." The Council then adjourned.
