The report that Mr Stanhope would take the Chancellorship of the Exchequer and Earl Carnarvon the Secretaryship for', the Colonies is now known to have beon' premature. ", To-day it is' stated that the Chancellorship and leadership of . the ' House of Commons have been ottered to Mr, Goschen, who, with the support of the Conservatives, will contest the seat for the Exchange Division of Liverpool, rendered vacant by the death of Mr.David Duncan.
