(PKOM OUR OWN CORItnSPONnENT.) ■■ " ' December Btli, 18S6. A special meeting of tho Waipawa Town Board was held lost evening. Present: Messrs Harker (in the chair), flennett, Collelt, and M'QJreevy. On the motion of Mr-Harker it was resolved by special order to bring the Local Bodies Loan- Act into operation in this district. The ordinary meeting followed. Tho olerk reported that the treasurer had placed to the Board's credit £15 2s Id on account of subsidy. A letter was read, dated 19th November, from Mr Leo as attorney for Mr T. Waldroni; threatening to servo. a writ if the Board's men were not removed from digging on his land at once.— lt was stated that the men had been " removed.— Mr Bennett raised a question. as to who was to pay for the cutting of the drain. Mr M'Greevy said that ■■'the Board must pay in the first place, and the amount would be refunded " by owners of property, fie would guarantee thati the Board should be at no loss. Account ordered to be paid. — A number of accounts were passed for payment. — Mr Marker's motion, that the County Council be requested to take levels in the town, in view of intended drainago, lapsed ' for want of a seconder, as also did Mr OollettV motion for closing Waverleystreet .and opening a road through Mr - ■ Eatlihone's paddock. --Calling tenders for widening Church-road and for making reservoir was ordered to stand over.— lt was decided to hold a special meeting on the 23rd inst. to confirm the adoption of the Local- Bodies Loan Act,— On tho motion of Mr M'Greevy it was resolved . that the'footpath^from the river to Stone's shop be formed* on condition that the owners interested pay for carting. Wlmt might have been a fatal accident was .very pluckily averted this morning. An old Maori woman had descended from the up train, and not noticing the near ■ approach of the other train started for the platform. Tho horrified spectators cried out to warn her of Jier danger, but she did not hear them, and hail it not been for the plucky behaviour of Constable Trbnson and one of the porters named Peters, who jumped on to the line and lifted her bodily to the platform when the train was within a few feet of them, I shonld certainly have had a fatal accident to record. ' • The cup presented to the Waipawa Athletic Club by Mr W. C. Smith, to be rim for onßoxing Day, is now on view in the township.
