Palmer by fine batting raised his score to 72, when'he was well caught in the long field . Trumble was caugh t after increasing Ids score to 31. Bruce made a good stand for 27, and Evans by careful play put 20 together before ho was caught. The innings closed for 225. Auckland, requiring 216 to win, started their second innings very disastrously. They had no less than 15 wickets down for 44 when play was stopped, Evans and Spoflbrth wore in rare form with the ball, and did almost what they, liked with the Auckland batsmen. The match was drawn, but it cannot be said that it was in favor of Auckland, although they were 10 runs ahead on the first innings. The scores are as follows :— Australians— 2nd Innings.
