QUEENSLAND.
(Rccoivcd December 7, 3.15 p.m.) Brisbane, Tuesday. The Government have received a telegram from tho Agent-General in London stating that the Secretary for the Colonies has intimated that the Imperial Government deem it ' nnncessary that British sovereignty be proclaimed over New Guinea, as the defence of that country is adequately secured by the present protectorate^ Mr Stanhope further states that if annexation protection is required tho colonies must provide for the necessary expenditure.
