BISHOP'S OPENING.
The following game .waa played at the ninth annual meeting of the Canadian Chess ' Association : — i White' Biaok. (Mr Lambert.) (a) This is premature. (l>j A_ matter of course. Black having the choice of Castling on either sides can . shape his course as he will, and this is a good way to begin. (c) Taking the bull by tbe horns— and no doubt judiciously.- He could not well free his' Knight in any other way, as pushing on the King's Knight's Pawn would be suicidal. But that he is, thus compelled as it were to lose a move at the outset, is against tho soundness of the previous play. (d) A needless precaution. White should not daro to pin the Knight before his opponont had Castled. PtoQ R 3 looka a much better move, as it would enable him to retain his King's Bishop — a most important piece in the game. (c) Au aimleßS sort of manoeuvre, whioh serves no good purpose. Xt to K sq, or R2, was bettor. (/) We should have prefered taking with • the other Pawn in agreement with general principles. (g) The sorios of exchanges presaged now brings about a not very interesting end game but a very lenghty one. '. (h) B to B 4 would, it seems, have insurred the gaitv of the Pawn, aud given him a chance to win.
