THE REPRESENTATIVE MATCH.

. ' [By "Crossbar."] Now that the selection committee have picked the team which is to do battle for Hawke's <Bay, I • should like to make a few remarks concerning the players. To, commence I :may say that the. forwards are a grand lot of men, and will :make it very rough' for the WeLingtonians, but I , should like to see some slight' alterations "amongst the backs. ■ ■ ' Starting with tho full-back, J. Fleming (Union), it must be said' this player has fallen off a good deal since he used to play in Christchurch,- where he was considered about the best full-back in Canterbury. He collars and drop kicks well, and plays a cool game, never losing his head. .J. Ross (Union) is a- smart half. Ho collars and kicks well, but is rather apt to stick too much to the ball when running. Wallace (County) is a good runner and collarer, and I expect to see him veil to the fore if ho does not lose his head. Walker (Napier) is a splendid drop kick, collars well, and plays a hard game all through. Gibbons (Napier), the same dashing player who has led his men to victory many a time, is good at every department of tho game, and will take some passing by the Wellington speelers. • Hcdley (Nanier) has been absent from the district this season, but if he plays the same game which he used to the committee are quite justified in giving him a place. He collars and runs well, and takes his kick very quickly. Trotter (Napier), the best forward in the team, will generally be seen coining through the scrum with the ball, dribbles splendidly, and collars well. Robson (Napier), a second Trotter, works hard in the scrum. Jameson (Napier) is another dashing forward, who dribbles and follows up well, F. Kennedy (Napier), a hard-working forward, is specially good on the line out. Roskruge (Napier), a player who has improved wonderfully of late, plays a hard game, and is very smart on tho line out. ■ Fletcher (Union), a good wing man, dribbles well, but is apt in his eagernoss to play_ off-side. He should try to get over this fault. Gregory (County) is a good forward, who follows up and collars well. Sanders, a fine dribbler, plays a fast game. Harrap (Nanier), a heavy, hard-working player, is good on tho lino out.
