CONCERT AT THE SPIT.

St. Andrew's hail, Port Ahuriri, was crowded to overflowing last night \yith an appreciative audience, the attraction being a concert in aid of the funds of the Port Presbyterian Church. The Row J. G. Paterson occupied the chair. The entertainment commenced with a well-played overture by. Mr Sorroll's string baud, "La ltuche dOr," an enjoyable item. Mr 11. A. Cornford read "My Chinee Cook" in his usual clever style, and was cheered to. the echo. Miss.Tilloy was honored with marked tokens of approval for her song, ' " Carissima ; " the next item, "Let mo I,ike a Soldier Kail," by Mr J. Holt, being loudly enoorod, Mr Macklbjloek followed I with a loading that kopt the aiidionce in roars of laughter. The titloof this humorous ilem was " Generalship," and the reader's dialect and "pawky," emphasis were intensely amusing. Mr Hornsby sang in good stylo and with considerable expression "Only to See Her Face," ami was honored with an encore. A pleasing ballad, sweetly sung by MissKedward, was well received, and was followed by " Steering Home," excollently sung by Master D, Ileiulry, who had to repeat the last verse. Mr Pratt was applauded for his song, "Some Day," and Mr McCarthy met with a good reception for his reading, "The Pied Piper of Ham- : lin." Mr Greenfield was fairly successful in bis rendering of "The Village lilaeksmith," but the singer would have been heard to better advantage if the ancomIMUiyist, Mr G. Walker, had not played the accompaniment to the second verse while Mr Greenfield was endeavoring lo sing the third vorso. Miss tinchanan was deservedly applauded for a charming song, " Watching, after which the Misses Denliolin excolluntly played a pianoforte duot, Mr It. W. Neal was very warmly applanded for a spirited recitation, " The Spanish Champion," Miss Ulackmore following with a careful rendering of " The music of the heart." Mr AVilkie read a highly amusing piece entitled '|A. Gowk's Errand," a specimen of Scottish humor delivered in Mr Wilkie's well-

known style, and ' received with much laughter. The programme was brought to a close by Mr Gibson, who was warmly applauded for his song "Darling of my heart.". At the conclusion of the concert the chairman caused considerable -merriment by one of his characteristic brief speeches, in which he proposed votes of thanks to those who had taken part in the concert, and in promoting it. A word of praise is due to the Misses M'Nae, Holt, and Kraoft.for their able pianoforte accompaniments. The concert as a whole passed, off most successfully, and much credit is due to all who helped to bring about the result, the secretary; Mr Macklintock, deserving special commendation for bis energetic efforts. The liberality of Mr D. Cotton is also worthy of praise, that gentleman convoying in his 'basses, free of cost, Napier patrons of the concert to and from the Spit.
