ISLAND BAY SPRING MEETING. Second Day. [by telhoeaph.] Wblmngton, Monday. The second day's racing of the Island B£K spring meeting took plaoe to-day. "fif& weather was fine, with a slroDg northerly wind. The ground was rather heavy from Saturday's and the overnight's rain. About 800 persons were present. The two totalisators put through £3700. The sport was excellent, several of the finishes being very close. HANDICAP HURDLES, 2 miles. Mr Barren's Director, aged, lOst 121 b (Newman) 1 Mr Gentry's Erebus, 6yrs, 12st (owner) 2 Mr Martin's Macaroni, aged, 12st 41b (A. Lyford) 3 — Miss Agnes (9st 121 b) and Loon Lomond (Sst 71b, declared 31b over) also ran. Direotor was the favorite at evens, A capital start was effected. Erebus and Loch Lomond at once forced the pace, and soon showed with a good lead. 'After going half a mile Macaroni went up, and led Erebus past the stand. All the horses wore well together on entering the straight the last time. Director then passed Macaroni and Miss Agnes, EtßhuT,'Wrt»sß3-bßstss~ • at the distance, the grey winning by two lengths easily. Time, 4min 17sec. Dividends, £2 12s and £3 Is. ■WBLTEB HANDICAP. Glaicks and Puck made the running, but in the last quarter of a mile a splendid race took place between JEUta and Puck, the Maori horse eventually winning by a head, Glaioks two lengths away third. Mr Owen's Fay, 4yrs, 6st 91b (Buckridge) 1 Mr Redwood's Clogs, 4yrs, 7st 101 b (Chapman) 2 Mr lorns' Pasha, 4yf s, Bst 13lb (HosJdns) 3 T-Mlnerva (7st I21b) and The Poet (7st) > 3*3»0 ran. Revoke was soratched. --— 'Clogs got the beßt of the start, and made the running at a good pace, followed by The Poet and Pasha. Pasha and Minerva went up at the north turn, and Fay, who began badly, began to make up leeway. Pasha and Clogs led into the straight, but the former was in trouble 100 yards from home, and Clogs looked like winning, when Fay cams with a wet sail, and passing Clogs five strides from the post, won by a good length, Pasha a good third. Time, 2min 14sec. Dividends, £17 4s and £11 10s. TROTTING BACE. Curly Kate ... , 1 Kate Kelly 2 Nine others ran. Time, 6min 18sec. Dividend, £1 12 a. KILBIKNIB HANDICAP. Mr Redwood's Capsize, 4yrs, Gat 71b (Bockridge) 1 MrTSnored's Consul, syrs, Sst 131 b - (Voile) 2 Mr lorns' Pasha, 4yrs, 9at 51b (Heßkins) 3 —Lifebuoy (7st 71b), Rata (7st), and Eumonr (6st 121 b) also started. Consul wan the favorite at eveni, but after a splendid raoe was beaten by a neok. Time, lmin 24seo. Dividend, £7 Is. HACK EACE. Gossip ... 1 CONSOLATION.
