Thuksdat, Junk 25. The Council met at 2.30 p.m. LOANS TO SETTLKEB. The adjourned debate on Mr Bathgate's motion for a committee to enquire into the expediency of granting Btate assistance to settlers, by lending them money at a low rate of interest, waa resumed. The motion was carried on a division by 17 to 15. • BILL PASSED. The Mercantile Law Amendment Bill was read a third time and passed.
