• i . ♦ HAWKE'S BAY JOCKEY CLUB'S STEEPLECHASE MEETING.
Most of the horses for the above meeting are now located at Hastings, and should the weather prove fine on Thursday, one of the most successful cross-country meetings yet held in New Zealaud may be anticipated. The town is full of pencillers, but very little betting has been indulged in. Last night the bookmakers assembled in the commercial room of the Criterion Hotel to call over the odds, but few of the public were, present.
