The failure of the Suez Canal Conference to arrive at any definite conclusion regarding the control and working of the canal haa irritated the French Government.
At the Ascot meeting the Gold Vase was won by Mr J. V. Lawrence's Althorf, with Mr John Hammond' a Eurasian second, and Lord Eosebery's Folemas third.
The New South Wales Land and Finance Company have notified the first issue of 50,000 shares. The company have reserved 50,000 shares for allotment in the colonies. The colonial board of directors are Messrs Triokett, Longham, and Darrant.

g(Reeeir«d June 20, 1.15 a.m.) London, June 17. At to-day's wool auctions 10,700 bales were catalogued. The tone of the market generally was flat. Crossbreds and New Zealand greasy descriptions ruled one half -penny to one penny lower than at last sales. Port Philip and Sydney greasy were one half-penny lower. Medium to good qualities of scoured wools and medium Sydney and Port Philip fleeces are about one penny lower.

The Marquis of Salisbury has been successful in forming a new Ministry, and prooeeded to Windsor to-day in order to submit the names for the approval of Her Majesty the Queen.
