A cricket matoh will be played on Olivesquare this afternoon between the Union 0.0. and the High School 0.0. Play will commence at 2 o'clock sharp. The railway authorities request us to state that the special tickets from Napier aDd Farndon to the races and oattle show are not available for return by the ordinary trains. The last special train leaves the racecourse at 5.25 p.m. eaoh day. Napier will be well supplied with amusement at the Theatre Royal during race week, and Mr and Mrs E. Hart's celebrated " Happy Hours " entertainment will open a short season on Monday evening. The entertainment is very highly spoken of by the Press of the colony. In our report of the funeral of Father Forest, an allusion at the grave by Father Grogan, to Dr Spencer's unremitting care of the deceased clergyman during his last illness, was by mistake left out. The name of Mr G. E. Lee was also by mistake omitted from the list of chief mourners. The Athenaeum committee are considering arrangements for holding an industrial exhibition in Napier, about the end of December. The exhibition will be for the purpose of raising funds for the establishment of an art gallery, and of technical classes for the youth of the district. Suoh an object deserves the greatest possible support, and it is to be hoped the efforts of the committee will be completely successful. The Clive-square improvement committee was to have held a meeting last Thursday evening, but owing to several attractions in other ways there were not sufficient members present, and it was deemed advisable to postpone taking definite aotion. The adjourned meeting will be held at the Garrison Band room this evening at 8 o'clock, when the time and place for holding the proposed fair will be brought under consideration. The performance by he Marionette Company at, the Theatre Boyal last evening attracted a ■ good audience, when the programme of the preceding night was repeated. The performance went briskly throughout, and was much applauded. There will be a matinee performance., this afternoon for. schools and children, when the theatre is sure to be crowded with delighted youngsters. The la9t performance in Napier by the oompany will be given this evening, and thoso who have not yet seen this entertainment will do well to pay a visit to the theatre. The Marionettes will appear at Waipawa on Monday and Tuesday evenings. The opening of the boating season to-day will be inaugurated by a grand procession of boats, and by a aeries of rowing matches. Judging from the : fine weather we have been enjoying for. the past few days, an outing to witness the proceedings ih the inner harbor should constitute an agreeable change to townspeople. The opening of the season will be under the combined auspices of the Hawke's Bay Sailing Club and the Napier Rowing Club. After hearing the evidence of prosecutrix, defendant, who pleaded not guilty, was discharged. —Joseph Haley, charged with being drunk and disorderly, did not appear, and his bail ol £3 was estreated.— Robert Gallagher, charged with the larceny of a sewing machine and several articles of jewellery, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to six .months' hard labor.— William Pa^ker-y Registrar of Electors, instituted proceedings against a number of claimants to be plaoed upon the electoral roll, requiring them to produce proof of their I
