It is thought by the Promoters that the time has how arrived when increased accommodation is requisite, and with that view they have had plans prepared giving 18 feet extra width to the body of the Theatre. The Dress Circle will be advanced 22 feet nearer the stage, and will be provided with the newest and most comfortable of upholstery and seating accommodation, notably the patent ironframed Chairs now in fashion in the latest built Opera Houses and Theatres. There will be four Private Boxes connecting the Circle with the Proscenium. The Staee will have an additional 10 feet in depth, with a Proseeninm opening of 27 feefc, and a proportional increase in height. When these alterations are completed the building will accommodate without any crowding an . audience of upwards of 1200 persons, thus ranking as one of the largest in New Zealand, and the revenue receivable from letting will be increased in proportion. The largest companies will also be induced to perform in this town, which they now pass by, and in conjunction with the contemplated improved shipping facilities will insure the highest talent visiting what is admitted to be the best show town in the colony for its size. The ventilation of the house and its lighting are to be made a special feature of the improvements, as also the- extra exits and staircases supplied in' case of an alorin of fire. Separate cloak and retiring rooms for ladies and gentlemen are a part of the scheme. To facilitate the more frequent use of the buildmer for Fancy Fairs, llatiuees, : Horticultural and Poultry, &c., Shows, more' windows will be, provided, and a project will be submitted for the ap"-" proyalof the Directors to light the whole House by Electricity in the latest and most inexpensive manner, thus offering the boon of effective lighting, unaccompanied by oppressive heat in the summer months. ■ . The acoustic properties of the Theatre have not been overlooked, as the proposed plan supplies a new dome roof, which will materially add to the pleasure of the patrons of tho entertainments. It is for the purpose of carrying out these desirable alterations that the Company has' been projected, and as testing the public feeling on the subject a hasty caavass for support has been made, resulting in upwards of £3500 worth of shares being ™* en ,. u P» thus rendering the successful floating of they Company a certainty. ■ - • - The names already on the Provisional Directorate,, a ?ri the Share List are aguarantee for the soundness « oMiewaerWsiaffr" ' 1138
