THE HAWKE'S BAY SEAT.
Though throe candidates are soliciting the suffrages of the electors of the Hawke's Bay distriot,* the contest will be between Captain Russell and Mr Sutton. Mr Desmond's candidature can only be looked upon as a badly conceived joko. He has not the shadow of a chance of election, despite the cegis of Sir George Grey which has been thrown around him. Those who vote for Mr Desmond will throw their votes away. Therefore we urge every man who wishes to give his vote in a way whioh will influence the election to vote for either Captain Russell or Mr Sutton. We have taken a very decided stand in this election, because we have a very decided opinion that Oapt. Eussell will be in every way a better representative than Mr Sutton, and that opinion is based upon the past aotions of both when in Parliament. If Captain Russell's friends are true to him, and make it their duty to go to the polling booth, whatever difficulties there may be in the way, we have no doubt of the result. He lost his eleotion three years ago through the over confidence of his friends, and a similar supineness may again result * in his rejeotion ; but if there is a full poll we look confidently to seeing him at the I head of the poll, though not by a large majority.
