Mr Sheehan withdrew his amendment for the postponement of the debate, on receiving an assurance that sufficient time would be allowed before the bill would be committed. Mr Bryce opposed the bill. Mr Pyke said the bill formed part of a scheme agreed to by the goldfields members, and which had been submitted to the Government. Mr Seddon replied, stating that the goldfields were prepared to face the question of local revenues. The bill was read a second time on the voicos. EMPLOYMENT OP FEMALES. On the motion of Mr W. M. Green, the Employment of Female's. Act Amendment Bill was read a Becond time; SCHOOL COMMITTEES ELECTION BILL. Mr Steward moved the second reading of the School Committees Election Bill.

After considerable debato the motion was put and carried.
