Stallions THE SIRE OF THE SEASON. $SS*»k^_ nnHE Thoroughbred Horso JIOIL « POHOKURA, " By Pacific, out of Villette by Young Plover out of Ada, ./Ether. Pacific by Flatcatcher, dam Disagreeable by Agreeable ; her dam by Sam, out of Morel by Sorcerer. Flatcatcher by Touchstone, oufc of Decoy, by Filo da Puta. Finesse by Purere. Viscount by John Bull, sister to Skyscraper by Highflyer. Touchstone hy Camel; Banter by Master Henry, Boadicea by Alexander, Brunette by Amaranth, Mayflower by Matchem, Camel by Wlialehonc, out of a Selim mare; Maiden by Sir Peter Phenomenon. Ho was imported from England, and got the celebrated performers Orlando, Nebula, Glengarry, Satellite (the fastest horse foaled in tlie Southern Hemisphere), Moonshine, Moss Rose, Dundee, Resolution, Otupai, and last though not least Hailstorm. Ifc will be seen that no horse south of the Hue can boast of such renowned ancestors as the sire of Pohokura ; he is also fortunate on the dam's sido, for Young Plover (fche sire of. Pohokura's dam) was not only a first-class race-horse, but was mosfc successful afc the stud, as all his progeny were clippers under heavy weights, be fche distance six furlongs or three miles. Pohokura's dam was half sister to that grand mare Deception, the best maro that ever trod the New Zealand turf ; she ran fifth in fcho Champion Race in Sydney in 1860, in a large field three days after landing from New Zealand. Villette (dam Pohokura), raced wifch great success as a three-year-old, and was early put to the stud, and became tho dam of several well-known winners. Pohokura promised to he a great performer both on the flat and over fences, hut his racing career was unfortunately cut short by an accident which, although it deprives the turf of what bid fair to he one of the grandest performers in tlio colony, will prove a boon to breeders desirous of producing racers, steeplechasers, or excellent weight carrying hacks. Pohokura is a dark brown, with black points, 6 years, stands 15 hands 3k inches high, his whole contour being handsome, powerful, and racing-like, and is deserving of the patronage of breeders, uniting as ho does, all the fastest and stoutest strain of blood of the English thorough-bred horse. All competent judges declare him the most usefid sire that has ever been in this province ; in appearance he is a grand powerful horse, and in his veins runs blood of the most patrician quality — tracing back to the grand Touchstone fountain, a strain whoso deserved praise we should never cease fco sing. Breeders should nover forget the fact that all this breed aro noted for their Good Temper, General Soundness, and Hardy Constitution. WILL TRAVEL DURING THE COMING SEASON AS FOLLOWS :— Tuesclavs, at Mr William Villiers', Petano Hotel ; Thursdays, at Mr William Ruddick's, West Clive Hotel. Terms — 5 guineas each mare, two or more the boni fide property of the same owner, as per agreement. Groomage ss, to be paid at time of service.
