NAPIER HARBOR BOARD.

Tuesday, November 18. The board met at 2.30 p.m. Present— The Chairman (Mr J. D. Ormond), Messrs Smith, Lyndon, Kinross, and Vautier. BANK BALANCE. The secretary stated that the balance at the bank to the credit of the board was £11,444 17s 6d. SOUNDINGS. A chart was laid on the table showing 14 feet of water at the entrance of the channel. CORRESPONDENCE. The following letters were read : — From the Harbor-master, stating that the weather had not been good enough for tho diver to go down and relieve the chain of the moorings by shovelling. The Helen Denny being nearly loaded the captain desired to have his chain relieved from the mooring chain. The secretary was directed to inform tho Harbor-master that the board would authorise the expenditure of £5 in unshackling tho Helen Denny's chain. From the clerk of works, recommending that certain repairs, &c, be made to the house occupied by the pilot boat's crew. It was decided that the matter % atand over until next meeting. From Mr Saunders, the clerk of works, reporting a.s requested upon the advisability of using dynamite for tlie removal of the bank situated between the piers near the entrance of the harbor. Mr Saundors expressed the opinion that the effect of the use of dynamite would be to loosen the whole surface of the bank, so that the tides could more effectually scour the bank than at present. It was decided that £20 be expended in trying an experiment with dynamite upon the work mentioned in Mr Saunders' report. From Mr John Miller, stating that in fulfilling his contract with the Board for road metal he had broken down some limestone which he was willing to deliver to the Board at 6d per yard less than the price paid formerly, but should the Board not require the stone Mr Miller wished to have permission to dispose of it a3 ballast. The Board directed that Mr Miller be informed that the board did not require the stone and would not permit his removing it as requested by him. THE DIVING DRESS. Mr Kinross stated that Captain Parker ' of the Halcione was desirous of procuring the use of the diving dress for the purpose of getting his ship cleaned by his boatswain. He moved that Captain Parker he allowed the use of the dress at I a charge of half a guinea a day, Captain i Parker undertaking to return it in the same good order as he received it. The motion was agreed to. The Board then adjourned.
