He was selected : for his present owner at the Highland Society's Show at Dumfries, in 1878, whoro he was a prize- taker, and was imported to Hawke's Bay by Douglas McLean, Esq. He was acknowledged in Scotland by the greatest breeders to be one of the purest Clydesdales that had left for many years. Bkrun Congress is a beautiful bright bay, 4 years old, standing 17 harida, strong, active, good tempered, with great flat bone, spleudid feet, and a perfect model of the breed. This splendid Clydesdale Stallion was bred by Mr Ralston, Cnlmore Sfcranraer, is four years old, and gained 2nd prize at the Strathendrick Society's Show, and Ist prize at Stirling in 1577. He was selected by the Stratheneiick Society, and awarded their Premium o£ £100 to travel in the district that season. Berlin Congress is by Lord Lyon, out of Jeau. Lord Lyon by Sir Hercules out of Puppet. Sir Hercules by Rob Hoy. Jean by Victor. Victor by Drumore Farmer, out of Tibbie. Drumore Farmer by out of Lumlbck Mare. Tibbie by Robert Burns, out of Sussie. Lord Lyon gained a prize at the Highland Society's Show, in 1869 ; the Banffshire premium, in 1872 ; the Forfarshire premium iv 1873; and is allowed to be the best breeding Stallion in Scotland at tho present day. Lord Lyon's stock have always been Ist prize takers wherever exhibited. s Hercules was noted as a prize taker, and firstclass breeding horse. Rob Roy was a famed Stud Stallion. Some of his gets, including Blackleg, occupied eminent positions in the Show ring. Jeau was the dam of Beveral high priced colts and fillies. Victor gained Istpaizo at Stranraer as a two-year-o'd ; Ist prize at Hhins District Show when three years old ; 2nd prize afc Castle Douglas the following year; two iirst prizes at Gatehouse ; and in 1861, second prize at the Highland Society's Show afc f tiding, lie also gained a Silver Medal for being 3ire of the best young stock at btranraer in 1865, and was afterwards sold at a. high figure to go abroad. Tibbie gained first prize at tftrauraer in 1854, 1857. and 1*59; Highland Society's first prize in lh6o ; and iirst prize at Strauraer with iwo of her orfapriug, in 1861. This mare was dam of live prize stallions. Sussie gained 16 first prizes, with nearly as many medals, and was never beat till 1854, by her daughter Tibbie, mentioned above. Lumlock, prize mare, gained fhst prize at the Highland Society's, and looal Shows, till she was 15 years old. Terms — 7 guineas each mare, two or more the property of tho same owner, 6 guineas. Mares must be removed immediately on the receipt of notice of their being stinted, and all fees paid prior to removal. To prevent disappointment early application is necessary. Hercules is a bay horse, 7 years old, and stands 15| i hands high, combines the best of blood, with good bone and immense power, and has proved himself a good horse on the turf. At the Canterbury meeting in 1876, won the Grand Stand Handicap, 1 mile, in 1 mm. 50 sees., carrying Bst. 71bs., beating six others in the same year ; won the Hawke's Bay Stakes, 2 miles, in 4 mm. 4£ sees., beating Fishhook and the Maori Weed. The Atistralasian, in speaking of the Sir Hercules blood, remarked: — " Nq family has gained tiuch a reputation as that which descends from the colonial-bred Sir Hercules. In contests of every description the representatives of this live have achieved more than their share of popular triumphs, from the time Mr Tait carried all before him with old Cossack (brother to Waimea), down to the present season, when Kingaborough, Dagworth, Melbourne, Reprieve, Sterling, FitzYattendon, Valentia, Calumny, Ringwood, and many others with a dash of the old blood, carried the owners' colors to the fore in some of the hardest tussels of the year."
