He is by the celebrated imported trotting sire Serenader, out of a first-class Victorian steeplechase mare. He was purchased at a high figure by his present proprietor at the sale of Samuel Gardiner, Bsq.'s, Bendoora Park, Victoria, in 1878, and was the highest-priced trotting stallion there sold. From the published pedigree of hib Bire it will be seen that he possesses the best trotting blood in the world. SERENADBJR was a beautiful brown without whitej 15 hands 3 inches highj with strength to carry 16 stone, ond in quality and Style was a shortleggttd huntur, and probably one of the finest goers in England, being cocky, easy, and free. He was bred by John Birkbeck, Esq., of Threapland Hall,' near Skipton. Ho was got. by the Devonshire Trotting Rainbow, by Agar's Rainbow, dam ~oy Heart of Oak. Devonshire Rainbow was tho sire of the following trotting stallions :— Tempest, Rainbow, Rattler, Merry legs (winner of 37 prizes), President (winner of 12 j'i'izes), Renovator ' (winner of Champion Prize Cup at Kirktham, in 18G6, and was second at the Great Yorkshire, at York, same year, 34 competitors). Sereliadar's dam by St. Bennett (for liis per* formauce, &c, See Stud Book), granddam by the far-famed Norfolk Phenomenon, which was undoubtedly acknowledged to be tho 1 fastest trotting stallion England over pro- : duced j he was by the Norfolk Cob, fov which ' J. Theobald, Esq., of Stockwell Surrey, gave 1000 guineas ; he was by Kirkby's Wildfire, who beat Mr Slade's celebrated black marc, over Sunbury Common, for 400 guineas. Sercnadcr himself was tho winner of the following prizes : — ln ISC6, at Skipton, Yorkshire, first . prize as a yearling ; 1868, silver medal at j Skipton, first afc Keighley,' and first at Bingj ley ; in 1869, first at Accrington, first at iSkipton, first at Keighley, first at Bingley '(nine competitors), first at Allerton (13 com- - petitors), first at Driglington, also at Ad wall on; in 1870, he took prizes at Quecnsbury, Halifax, Great Horton, Allerton, Keighley, and Bingley ; in 1871, at Keigliley and Skipton ; iand in 1572, at Skipton, Keigliley, and Bing•ley, always beating numbers of the same class ; lin 1873 he took three prizes, including the ; great Yorkshire Trotting Stallion Prize, open 'to England, France, and America, for the stallion best calculated to improve the breed of trotting horses, held at JETarrowgate (17 competing), August 13th ; ho there beat Mr ;Cowton's Lord Stanley, winner of the Royal Prize, at Hull, in 1873 ; also first at Islington and Alexandra Park, held in London the same year.' T his colt, rising 4 years old, and standing 16i hands high, is a beautiful dappled bay with black points, possessing grand hair, with splendid bone and temper. He is by Mr Canning's imported horse Dugdale, dam Gipsy, imported from Warrnambool. He is thoroughly staunch and a sure foal getter, having sewed several of his owner's marcs last season. Honest Tom is now rising five years old, standing 16 hands lin., by Little John out of Young Diamond, one of tlie largest prizetakers in Tasmania, Auckland, and Hawke's Bay, and never was beaten. Young Diamond out of Old Diamond, pure Clydesdale mare, by the celebrated Clydesdale Entire Iron Duke. Iron Duke and Old Diamond both imported to Tasmania by D.uncan Campbell, Esq., and as prize-takers were never beaten. Vide New Zealand Stud. Book. For symmetry and muscular development they are unequalled. Young Diamond, four years old, was imported to Auckland by G. P Donnelly, Esq., carrying' a foal to one of the best horses in Tasmania ; said foal has been also a large prize taker in Auckland, and never was beaten. Young Diamond was sold at the Meanee about soven years ago by public auction for the sum of 155 guineas to the late E. A. Carlyon, Esq., from whom Mr George Merritt purchased Honest Tom when nine months old, Young Diamond, the dam, dying when he was only two weeks old, he being therefore brought up by hand. Honest Tom has been serving mares for the last two seasons, and is a sure foal getter, having run and served 53 mares last season, all of which proved in foal to him. Hoi s considered to be one of the grandest and most compact horses in New Zealand. Ho is a dark bay with four white points, standing on four short well set legs, bone in proportion. He lias magnificent loin and .ban-ell, being well ribbed up, and in all points a perfect model of symmetry.
