He was purchased at a high figure by his present ' proprietor at the sale of Samuel Gardiner, > Esq. 'a, Bendoora Park, Victoria, in 1878, • and was the highest-priced trotting stallion there sold. From the published pedigree of hi& sire it will be seen that he possesses the ! best trotting blood in the world, [ SERENADBR was ft beautiful brown without white, 15 hands 3 inches high, with strength to carry , 16 stone, and in quality and style was a short 1 legged hunter, and probably one of the finest goers in England, being cocky, easy, and free. Ho was bred by John Birkbeck, Esq., of ' Threapland Hall, near Sldptori. He was got by the Devonshire Trotting Rainbow, by A'gar's Rainbow, dam ~oy Heart of Oak. Devonshire Rainbow was the sire of the fol- ' lowing trotting stallions :— Tempest, Rainbow, • Rattler, Mevrylcgfl (winner of 37 prizes), President (winner of 12 prizes), Renovator (winner of Champion Prize Cup at Kirkthrtm, in 1866, and was second at the Great Yorkshire, at York, same year, 34 competitors). Sercnadar's dam by St. Bennett (for his performance, &c, sec Stud Book), granddam by the far-famed Norfolk Phenomenon, which was undoubtedly acknowledged to bo the fastest trotting stallion England ever produced ; he was by the Norfolk Cob, for which J- Theobald, Esq., of Stockwell Surrey, gave 1000 guinoas ; he was by Ivirkby'a Wildfire, who beat Mr Slade's celebrated black mare, over Sunbury Common, for 400 guineas. Sereuader himself was the winner of the following prizes : — ln 1866, at Skipton, Yorkshire, first prize as a yearling ; 186S, silver medal at Skipton, first at Keighley, and first at Bingley ; in 1869, first at Accrington, first at Skipton, first at Keighloy, first at Bingley (nine competitors), first at Allerton (13 com-petitor-8), first at Driglington, also at Adwaltonj in iS^,' he took prizes at Quecnsbury, Hali- , fax, ' Great Horton, Allerton, Keighley, and Bingley ; in 1871, at Keighley and Skipton ; and in 1872, at Skipton, Keighley, and Bing- ; ley, always beating numbers of the same class ; in 1873 he took three prizes, including the great Yorkshire Trotting Stallion Prize, open to England, France, and America, for the stallion best calculated to improve the breed of trotting horses, held at Harrowgate (17 competing), August ]3thj he there beat Mr Cowton's Lord Stanley, winner of the Koyal Prize, at Hull, in 1573 ; also first at Islington and Alexandra Park, held in London the sathq year. At Melbourne he was exhibited three times, and took honors on each occasion. SERENADEK'S DOUBLE is limited to 4J approved mares at six guineas each. This colfcj piaine 4 years old, and standing 16£ hands high, is a beautiful dappled buy with blacky jJpints, possessing grand hair, with splendid fton'e and temper. He is by Mr Canning's /■ imported horse Dugdale, dam Gipsy, imported from Warrriambool. He is thoroughly staunch and a sm'e foal getter, having served several of his owner's mares last season. Terms — For single mares, four guineas ; for two or more mares the property of one owner, £3 10s each. GENERAL TOM THUMB, a pure-bred Shetland pony, imported from Victoria by present owner, is descended from the purest Shetland breed, will servo mares at £2 10s each. KING DICK, by Serena dor, dam Hepburn's celcbi'atcd Victorian trotting mare, a bright bay colt, rising 3 years old, will run with a few approved marcs. Terms, £4 4s each. Sir Charles is a beautiful bright bay, 4 years old, stands 174 hands high, is strong, active, and good tempered, with great fiat bone, and splendid feet, and is a perfect model of the breed. This splendid animal was bred by J. D. Ormond, Esq,, M.H.R., and is out of Lady by Prince Charlie, a horse that gained first honors every time he was shown, and is acknowledged by breeders to be one af the best horses that ever crossed the line. More of his progeny have turned out prize takers than that of any other horse ever in the colony 1 Lady is by Lord Eglington (imported) out of au imported mare. Sir Charles has been shown four times, and each time carried off first prize ; he has also proved himself a sure foal-getter, not having' missed once last season. Terms : £5 for single mares ; two or more the property of the same owner, £4. Groom fees, ss. All mares must be paid for and removed by Ist January. Paddocking will be provided for one month, after which a charge of 2s 6d a week will bo made. All mares missing this year will bo served half-price next season. HONEST TOM will run with a limited number of mares this season at Mr George Mcrritt's Paddocks, at Farndon. Honest Tom is now rising five years old, standing 16 hands lin., by Little John out of Young Diamond, one of the largest prizetakers in Tasmania, Auckland, and Hawke's Bay, and never was beaten. Young Diamond out of Old Diamond, pure Clydesdale mare, by the celebrated Clydesdale Entire Iron Duke. Iron Duke and Old Diamond both imported to Tasmania by Duncan Campbell, Esq., and as prize-takers were never beaten. Vide New Zealand Stud Boot For symmetry and muscular development they are unequalled. Young Diamond, four yeai'3 old, was imported to Auckland by G. P Donnelly, Esq., carrying a foal to one of the best horses in Tasmania ; said foal has been also a large prize taker in Auckland, and never was beaten. Young Diamond was sold at the Meanee about seven years ago by public auction for the sum of 155 guineas to the late E. A. Carlyon, Esq., from, whom Mr George Merritt purchased Honest Tom when nine mouths old, Young Diamond, the dam, dying when he was only two weeks old, ho being therefore brought up by hand. Honest Tom has been serving mares for ' the last two seasons, and is a siu'c foal getter, having run and served 53 marcs last season, all of which proved in foal to him. He is considered to be one of the grandest and most compact horses in New Zealand. He is a dark bay with four white .points, standing on four short well set legs, bone in proportion. He has magnificent loin ' arid barrell, being well ribbed up, and in all points a perfect model of symmetry.
