Thursday, October 29. The Council met at 2.30 p.m,, and sat for three quarters of an hour. < » DEFERRED PAYMENT LAND. Replying to Sir F. D. Bell, the At-torney-General said that the Government would open no more land for 'sale on deferred payments until the end of the session. THE NEW ZEALAND UNIVERSITY. A petition from the New. ZealandfrUnivemty, praying that its res6r'yesiin various parts of the colony *fce;'made;;at once available for the purpose of higher education, was referred to a select committee. . , ; During the brief discussion that took place on the subject, Dr Grace aaßerted that all Ministries -that had been in office had treated the University , unfairly because the institution refused to lend its influence to party, but had steadily.pursued the course for which it was founded.
All other business was postponed, and the Council rose at 3.15.
