DIOCESAN SYNOD.
The Diocesan Synod resumed its sitting yesterday afternoon.
The Bishop, ;;in. ; reply. :tb 'a" question, said that only one cure was vacant in the diocese — the parochial district of Wairoa —the Rev. J. Hill,, of ..the 0.M.5., being locum tenens. . There was one licensed lay reader, and others who officiated by "request, although not duly licensed.
The Synod" referred the question of establishing temperance associations in connection, with the Church to the various parishes, inviting the - attention of "the clergy thereto.
The following reports were. adopted :~ Parish accounts ; petition' to both Houses of the Legislature re. religious- education in State schools 3. the Sunday-schbpl Association \'■ -thc^Bawke's Bay Trust Committee. , f " "' . the. Synod' revised .the lisf. of ; clergy meii entitled, to at the elec- ;- tion ' of clerical 'representatives 'to the General Syrio'd. Votes, of thanks were passed :by . the country members, clerical and lay, to the Ghiirch ihembe'rs in Napier, .'for their hospitality'; :;to" the Press forgiving ;pubHcity to'thepfoceedings of the Synod ; to the secretaries, clerical and lay ; and to the' President.
The Benediction^ pronounced by the Bishop, concluded the session of the Synods
