The Liberal party is sparing no etForfc to secure. a majority at the coming elections, and is confident of success. Speeches Brie being delivered by prominent Liberal Statesmen in all parts of the country, and associations pledged to the return of Liberal candidates are being formed wherever practicable. Mr Gladstone, addressing a large meeting of the elector* afc Chester yesterday, delivered a magnificent oration. lie denounced the policy and administration of the Conservative "Government in the itio'sfc withering terms, pointing" out the eriiciual decline which had taken place in tile prosperity of the country under Conservative rule, until ndw the whole kingdom was in a state of depression unexampled in living memory. He also strongly attacked the exclusive attention paid by the Government to their " foreign policy," and urged that the only hope for the country consisted in a return to Lib^. ral principles and a strict attention to home legislation. Tho remarks of. the hon. gentleman were received with tho greatest enthusiasm. At to-day's wool sales 10,407 bales were catalogued. There was an increased attendance of buyers, and bidding commenced with great spirit. Foreign buyers were specially numerous. Prices for New South Wales greasy qualities and superior cross-breds improve as the sale« progress. There is a considerable demand among American buyers for half-bred wool. The Panama Isthmus Canal Company has not boen floated. Heavy rains have fallen, causing disastrous floods- in the North-west of England. The wool niarlifefc is dteady;
